Community Consultation

Consensus Planning take the following steps in the build up to an application being submitted:

  1. We decide on the number of people that need to be consulted.
  1. We write to those that need to be informed about the proposal e.g. residents, councillors, interest groups, MP’s and local businesses.
  1. Research local issues before undertaking consultation and conduct a political audit.
  1. For the majority of our projects we propose to hold a community event and thereafter offer one to one meetings with key groups.
  1. We plan the event by:
  2.

      1. Researching the history of the site and looking at its constraints.
      2. Holding various meetings with our client to discuss the proposal.
      3. Producing a PowerPoint presentation for the event.

  1. At the event we seek to:
  2.

      1. Identify the concerns of those that have attended.
      2. Provide answers to easily resolved questions.
      3. Organise workshops to discuss the key topics raised.
      4. Reduce the number of concerns that have arisen.
      5. Increase the confidence amongst the community that our client is open to compromise and that we will do our best to appease both the community and our client.

  1. Following the event we will produce a newsletter or a review letter that will be sent to all those that attended the event plus those that we feel require a copy but were unable to attend. With this we aim to provide a summary of our findings and to identify proposed solutions.
  1. We then provide recommendations for our client to consider.
  1. We ensure that we maintain a dialogue with the local community and a transparent planning process leading up to Committee.
